Corporate catering in Mumbai: a buyer's playbook

From a 25-person board lunch in BKC to a 1,500-guest annual day in Goregaon: five questions that separate caterers who can deliver from caterers who can't.

The cost of a bad corporate lunch is not the invoice

A flat plated lunch in front of a visiting board, lukewarm food at a leadership offsite, or food safety failing at a client evening: these are reputation events that the procurement line item never accounts for. One weak vendor, one bad day, and the conversation the next morning is about the food rather than the meeting it was meant to support.

The five questions before you sign

Corporate catering procurement in Mumbai is still mostly relationship-driven. The professionalised version asks five questions, in order, and rules out anyone who cannot answer them cleanly.

One. The FSSAI licence of the kitchen that actually produces the food. Ask for the licence of the kitchen where your order is cooked, not only the licence on the letterhead, and ask how the caterer checks that kitchen against its own specification. Kravvia's catering runs in FSSAI-licensed partner kitchens, produced to Kravvia's specification.

Two. Whether the buyer can taste before booking. Any caterer who hesitates at this question is the wrong caterer. Sourcing answers, a documented sanitation routine and a menu tasting should be available without friction. Kravvia arranges a tasting from the shortlisted menu for weddings and large corporate orders.

Three. References from comparable scale. "We've done weddings" is not a reference for a corporate buyer. The right answer specifies scale, location and recency: three 200-guest corporate lunches delivered in BKC in the last quarter, with named contacts who will pick up a call. Generic references mean the caterer has not run at the scale being requested.

Four. Live counter capacity in the buyer's specific format. A pizza oven, a live chaat counter, an Asian wok, a tandoor: for any event over 100 guests, the live counter is what guests remember. Ask whether the chef on the counter has run that format at this scale before, and how many guests one counter serves per hour.

Five. Vegetarian and Jain coverage with separated prep. A genuine Jain kitchen is not a regular kitchen with the onion left out. It is a separate prep area, separate utensils, separate boards and separate cooking vessels. Mumbai corporate audiences reliably include strict Jain guests at any senior table. Caterers who cannot show separated Jain prep should not be in the procurement file.

The five-question filter takes ten minutes. That filter is the procurement saving, not the rate.

What Kravvia covers, and where

Daily office lunch programmes, board and leadership meals, town halls, product launches, client appreciation evenings, annual days, festive celebrations, and corporate gifting, across BKC, Andheri East and West, Powai, Lower Parel, Worli, Goregaon and the rest of the twelve corporate corridors. Same-day delivery is workable for under 50 guests with four hours' notice. Events over 200 guests need seven days' lead time; events over 500 need fourteen.

Pricing reference: corporate catering at Kravvia starts from ₹650 per guest for a four-course drop-off lunch, scaling to ₹1,200+ per guest for a full cocktail-to-dinner format with live counters. Standing accounts for daily office programmes price differently: see the dedicated office lunch piece for the rotation.
