Sindhi catering for a mehendi in Andheri East

Sai bhaji, Sindhi kadhi and bhuga rice at an Andheri East mehendi — one of Mumbai's most underused regional spreads, and what it requires for 80 to 200 guests.

Sindhi cuisine rarely makes the catering menu in western Mumbai, despite the community's long presence in the MIDC and Marol pockets of Andheri East. A mehendi is the natural occasion to bring it out — the afternoon format, the seated gathering, the festive-but-relaxed register all suit the kind of food a Sindhi kitchen does best. Kravvia's regional thali programme includes Sindhi specifically because the dishes are technically distinct: sai bhaji is not a north Indian palak, the kadhi runs tangier and thicker than Gujarati, and bhuga rice — caramelised onion rice — is the staple that anchors the meal in a way no Punjabi or Gujarati base does.

What a Sindhi mehendi catering setup requires

Mehendi events in Andheri East run 80–200 guests. The format is afternoon — typically 12pm to 4pm — with the mehendi artist working in one space while guests eat in another or in the same space. The food service needs to be mobile-friendly: guests are holding their hands up for the artist, which means finger food early and a proper meal when the mehendi is done.

Sindhi weddings in Mumbai often run across three days, with the mehendi as a separate event from the sangeet and the wedding day itself. If Kravvia is catering multiple events in the wedding week, we coordinate across all three to ensure the Sindhi flavour runs through without repetition.

The Kravvia Sindhi mehendi menu

From our regional Sindhi thali: Sai Bhaji (the signature Sindhi spinach-and-dal preparation — deep, earthy, restorative), Sindhi Kadhi (chickpea flour and tamarind-based, tangier and thicker than Gujarati kadhi), Aloo Tikki in Sindhi style, bhuga rice (caramelised onion rice — the Sindhi staple), phulkas and dal. As a nod to the celebration format, we open the mehendi with welcome drinks — Watermelon Mojito, Rose Shikanji, Aam Panna — and circulate passed bites: mini aloo tikki, corn tikki, Green Peas Ghughra.

Dessert ties the afternoon together: Moong Dal Halwa is universally appropriate, and for Sindhi families who want something distinctively regional, we can prepare Sindhi lola (sweet fried flatbread with jaggery) as a dessert centrepiece.

Pricing band

Sindhi mehendi catering at Kravvia starts from ₹700 per guest for a full afternoon regional spread. Welcome drinks + passed starters + seated thali + dessert, all-in, starts from ₹800 per guest. Minimum 60 guests for full regional thali service.

Booking notes

Regional Sindhi menus need 14 days' notice for sourcing. Tastings are recommended and particularly valuable for regional menus — the spice profile of Sindhi kadhi versus Gujarati kadhi, for instance, is worth experiencing before committing to 150 portions. Frequently asked

Is your Sindhi thali the full traditional version or an adapted one? We build from the traditional spec, then discuss adaptations with the family if required. Some families prefer a more contemporary presentation; others want the exact format they grew up with. We accommodate both.

Can you do a combined Sindhi and Punjabi spread for a mixed family wedding? Yes — this is a common requirement for inter-community weddings. We run both sections simultaneously.

Is Sindhi food vegetarian? The Kravvia Sindhi thali is 100% vegetarian, consistent with our overall menu.

Can the Sindhi thali be made Jain? The traditional Sindhi menu uses onion and garlic in several core dishes. A Jain adaptation requires significant changes — discuss with us at booking to understand what is and isn't possible while keeping the regional character.
